Course Description

This course aims to teach students the necessary basic techniques to work effectively in a professional recording studio. Students will utilize the Champion Street Recording studio to further develop their understanding of signal flow, gain staging, microphone technique, and other skills needed to produce quality recordings. Students will continue to improve their fluency with the industry standard recording software, Avid Pro Tools, and gain a better understand of how a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) interfaces with equipment in a professional studio. Students will be expected to continue to develop their critical listening skills, specifically relating to the usage of signal processors, microphone technique, and frequency recognition. These skills will be developed through independent work in the studio on various recording projects as well as several guided labs scheduled outside of regular class meetings.

Upon completion of this course students should have the necessary skills be able to produce recordings in most professional studios.
