Course Description

Course Title: Introduction to Narrative Filmmaking

Course Description: Using a hands-on, project-based approach, students in this course will learn the fundamentals of narrative filmmaking. The first four weeks of the term will be consist of class work introducing students to: Script, Physical Production, Camera, Lighting, Production Sound, Editing, and Post-Production. During this time, each student will develop an idea for a short (2-5 minute) film and write a treatment. The class will then be split into groups of three, with each group choosing one treatment and turning it into a finished film over the remainder of the term. Students will be responsible for finding locations, casting actors, and scheduling their (1-2 day) shoots. Equipment including cameras, lights, and sound gear will be available to each team.

Prerequisites

FAIR 202A or one course in either music, art or theater/dance history, and previous course in either audio, video or performance practice.
