Contemporary Embroidery: Stitch as Narrative

This course explores the use of hand embroidery as a means of surface design and self-expression. suitable for those new to hand embroidery, we'll begin by learning basic stitches, then use these stitches to create our own embroidered stories. Throughout the quarter, we'll look at artists working in contemporary embroidery, practice and refine our skills as embroidery artists, and try our hand at surface design techniques associated with embroidery, such as transferring photos to cloth, bead embroidery, and dyeing our own fabric and thread.
