Scholars Day

Scholars Day at Fairhaven College

Scholars Day is an all-day conference-style event featuring outstanding interdisciplinary student work at Fairhaven College. Students are nominated throughout the year by their professors and those that accept their nomination go on to present their work on a panel or in a pop-up art gallery on the Thursday of Scholars Week.

Scholars day is held at Fairhaven college and is open to all members of Western Washington University and the broader community. All Fairhaven courses attend Scholars Day in lieu of class that day and many presenting students invite their friends and family to attend. The college welcomes alums to visit and engage with current students.

The day is structured similarly to an all-day conference with about 4 or 5 time-blocks each consisting of about three to four interdisciplinary panels. The college prints programs and provides a free lunch to all presenters and attendees. Each panel has a theme and consists of three to five student presenters and a faculty moderator.

Students present their research, creative work, writing, etc. and the moderator manages a discussion between panelists and takes questions from the audience. Scholars Day highlights outstanding student work on everything from environmental research, socially engaged art, current public health issues, creative writing, social justice topics, video essays, original music produced in our recording studios, and much more.
