To what extent does international law provide solutions for people who are displaced in the context of climate change and disasters, and what other interventions are needed? Drawing on experiences from the Pacific, this talk will explore the suite of legal and policy responses needed to ensure that people’s rights, culture and identity are protected when their homes (and lives) are at risk.

Scientia Professor Jane McAdam AO is Director of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, UNSW Sydney. She is internationally renowned for her scholarship on forced migration, and particularly her leadership on legal responses to climate-related displacement. Her contributions have been widely recognized, including as winner of the Calouste Gulbenkian Prize for human rights, winner of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Law Award, a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and an Australian ‘Women of Influence’.
