Description
In this course we'll explore critical and reflective inquiry through the art of close reading song lyrics and poetry. We will study a large and diverse selection of song lyrics from various genres alongside poems from different periods and cultures. Students will learn to identify literary devices such as metaphor, imagery, allusion, and meter, and learn to apply to tools of close reading to a wide variety of poems and lyrics. Through class discussions, written analyses, and creative collaborative work, students will develop their ability to interpret and appreciate the nuanced language of poetry and song lyrics.

S/NX grading; narrative evaluation required for credit.
Attendance is required to receive credit in this class. A research paper and creative project is required as well.
