Course Description

This course examines the politics and culture of the Black Power Movement. We will trace the origins of Black Power from early 20th century, explore its heights in the 1960's/70's and reflect on its continued relevance in present day Black Social Movements. Some of the topics covered will include traditions of self-reliance, Black Nationalism, armed self-defense, as well as the cultural expression that reflect the varied political objectives and strategies of the Black Power Movement. Pre-requisites for the course are AMST 204 or AMST 301 or instructor permission.
