Course Description

This course will view and critically analyze popular films, reading texts about American race relations, and exploring how movies both framed and distorted the discourse between the dominant society and racial minorities between 1950 and 1980.

You will be watching all the films either in-class or online. These films are "free" to you and are only available to you as an enrolled student in this class. There will be some additional films that are considered to be "texts" that you will have to watch in addition to the "regular" films. These additional films will be "free" and online. There is one cost ($). If you choose to focus your final paper on a film of your own choice, you must have access to that film. I highly suggest you Google the title of the film you want to use and see which service shows it. Many films can be viewed on Amazon Prime for about $3.99.
