American Cultural Studies - Indigenous Methodologies

Crosslisted with FAIR 486E. This course is an exploration of the methodological and ethical issues related to conducting research with Indigenous peoples and communities. Using a decolonial lens, we will examine the intersections of imperialism and ‘research’ to better understand the ways in which Indigenous approaches differ from westernized approaches. We will engage in critical perspectives that call for the decolonization of research methods to help reclaim control over Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The course will examine contemporary work from diverse Indigenous scholars.
