This class contains high-sensitive course matter. Keep in mind this course explores topics that some may find triggering such as disappearance, rape, adoption, torture, and oppressive systems. Please take care of your mental health and consider this content when registering.

Students in this class will explore and dissect patterns regarding the rise of dictatorships. In this class, we will explore various forms of art as it relates and engages politically mostly as a form of resistance and at times aiding in oppression. By the end of this course students should be able to have general historical knowledge of Latin American dictatorships, specifically in Chile with Pinochet, Argentina with Videla, and the Dominican Republic with Trujillo. This class will be taught through multimedia materials such as film, books, songs, and paintings. At the end of the course, students will know more about Latin American history, politics, and the intersection between art, politics, and social movements.
