Course Description

What is Indigenous feminism? How can it help us understand the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women? How can it be used as tool for healing? This course will explore the concept of Indigenous feminisms, and how Indigenous feminisms expands beyond other feminist theories, especially in relation to settler colonialism, and focus on the ways Indigenous communities are empowered through nation-building. Our readings will come from a variety of fields and scholars that focus on Indigenous authors, Indigenous theories, and Indigenous experiences.

Pre-requisites for the course are AMST 202 or AMST 301 or instructor permission. Please contact Lourdes Gutierrez, Director of American Cultural Studies (gutierl2@wwu.edu) for overrides and further information.
