Course Description

This course takes an in-depth look at the United States legal system and how it affects individuals and society. Students will build knowledge of legal vocabulary, sources of law, the structure of the federal government, with a particular focus on the Supreme Court and the judiciary. This course will stress case analysis skills, including identifying legal issue(s), procedural history, facts, reasoning, and holding(s). In addition to case briefs, students will write a legal memorandum and engage in a mock trial. This class is required for the Law, Diversity and Justice concentration (major), and is required for the LDJ minor only if you are planning to take FAIR 422K: Advanced Legal Writing.
