Description

This course examines the politics and culture of the Black Power Movement. We will trace the origins of Black Power from early period of the 20th century, explore its heights in the 1960's/70's, and reflect on its continued relevance in present day Black Social Movements. Some of the topics covered will include traditions of self-reliance, Black Nationalism, armed self-defense, as well as the cultural expression that reflect the varied political objectives and strategies of the Black Power Movement.
