Course Description

This course has two primary objectives:

• To learn the basics of recording, editing, and mixing using the industry standard Avid Pro Tools digital audio workstation software

• To develop the necessary skills required to complete a basic recording project using the Fairhaven Recording Studio.

Students will be expected to use and build off of knowledge gained in the Intro to Audio Recording course in regard to basic signal processing and basic recording techniques. This includes the use of basic analog mixing console functions, compressors and equalizers, patch bays, and dedicated audio interfaces. Students will take knowledge gained in the previous course and apply it to the digital realm while learning the specifics of recording audio and MIDI, editing, and mixing using Avid’s Pro Tools DAW software. By the end of this course students should be able to complete a simple recording project on their own- from tracking and overdubbing, through editing and mixing.
