Tyler Durbin -- Jewish History and Memory in Europe

I will be talking about my ALG experience in the UK, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Spain which revolved around Jewish history and the politics of memory. Though geographically situated in Europe, my discussion will also have relevance and implications for Jewish life in the US and Israel/Palestine.

Giorgie O'Keefe De Paolis -- Refugee Support Studies from Home: Adaptations and Realizations

I spent the first two official terms of my grant figuring out how to proceed with my project in light of an international pandemic. In the two years I’ve been officially and unofficially working with the ALG, I’ve reached into scholarship concerning community-based refugee initiatives in the Levant, grappled with ethical questions of international travel, examined the underlying motivations for my initial ALG proposal, and actually had the opportunity to work with refugees domestically. While I finally have plans to travel, I am excited to share the unexpected and revealing journey of an ALG during COVID.

Hello! I'm Giorgie (they/them). I received the ALG in January 2020, with an initial proposal to travel to Lebanon that summer — my plans have since changed! Currently, I am a senior at Western, completing a Fairhaven concentration around immigration, storytelling, and advocacy. In my spare time, I read lots of fantasy books, practice yoga, and dance.
